I Believe I Can Fly- Irrational Optimism Monday

Writing isn’t an easy profession. There is rejection and criticism. It’s a job where your effort doesn’t necessarily make a difference to the outcome. You might write the heck out of a book, market that thing like there’s no tomorrow, and it still may not find its way to readers. But you know despite all of that- I finished another book this past week. (By finished I mean a draft, which as my editor will no doubt remind me in a few weeks, is MILES from actually being done) There are few things better than writing- THE END.

Just as I have with every book I think this is “the one.” This will be the book that explodes onto the publishing scene. This is the book that people will decide they can’t get enough of- they’ll buy it in bulk so that they always have an extra copy to give to people they meet. (no laughing- having an active imagination is part of my job.) The only thing better than finishing one book was the realization that I have an idea for another book. I’m excited to get started on it. Sure there will be days ahead when I want to beat my head on the desk, but today life is good.

In other good news stories I saw this the other day. A young girl dropped her stuffed bunny and it fell onto the train tracks. Before the bunny was run over in an explosion of fur and stuffing, transit workers stopped the train and rescued the stuffed bunny.

This story also made me happy. A high school runner was headed for the finish line when she saw there was another runner who was struggling. Instead of blowing past her, she helped her across the finish line. I dare you to watch the video and not get a lump in your throat and the desire to do something for someone else.

Feel free to share your good news in the comments.
