Random Monday- The Seasonal Edition

Don’t get me wrong. I like summer. I’m a big fan of sitting outside with a cold drink and a good book. I like hanging out with friends on a patio enjoying a good meal and even better conversation. Summer has vacation, long days, fresh tomatoes, flowers, and ice cream.

Alas, it is not my favorite time of year.

Due to my poor genetics, my skin was not designed to ever be outside. I am one of those people who burns within seconds of walking out of the house. I can get burned picking up the mail. I spend most of the summer slathered in an SPF high enough that I should be allowed to walk on the surface of the sun and I still burn.

Summer has other downsides, lots of bugs (including those that fly, creep and sting), not being able to sleep when it’s too hot, and a woeful lack of anything good on the TV.

Then things like this can happen. A boy was struck by a bird while riding on a roller coaster. If it had been winter he would have been tucked up inside reading a book.

Summer is risky.

Fess up- is summer your favorite time of year or is there another?

Not to be a Pollyanna, but I like all the seasons for their own reasons. Even spring when it tries to kill me…although, it is my least favourite. Fall is number one, then summer, then winter, then spring.

Do you have a lot of bugs this year? It’s been great here, no mosquitoes even. There are so few bugs, we’re wondering if perhaps we should feed the birds (which we don’t usually do in the summer).

I KNEW roller coasters were dangerous! I feel so vindicated, now, for having stood on the ground while the rest of my family flipped themselves upside down at Playland. There was probably a bird just WAITING to kamikaze me.

    I’m still liking summer, though…

I like summer for the flowers and fresh produce, but as for the high temps and humidity? Not so much. Add in the severe drought conditions this summer, and it’s definitly not a favorite time for me.

I prefer Spring, with everything greening up, flowers starting to bloom, and everything just coming alive. My second favorite is Fall, with the pretty autumn colors on the trees, and the crispness you start to feel in the air. :)

I love summer, but I don’t love intense heat. The grocery store marquee near my house says it’s 108 degrees Fahrenheit today. Boo. My favorite season is fall! Something about the long shadows, the thin sunlight, and the SWEATERS makes my heart sing.

You couldn’t catch me on a roller coaster. I barf at the very thought.

Update: The grocery store marquee is wrong. It’s 97 degrees Fahrenheit. Still “boo.”

I love summer. But I don’t love sitting in 85+ degree heat and sun. Shade is my friend.

Fall and spring sort of tie for favorite. The only bad thing about fall is winter is next. But the cooler temps after a hot summer. The leaves changing. School starting. Frosty still mornings.

And spring. A break from winter. Snow going away. Everything beginning to green. The smell of fresh and new. Birds once again chirping.

    I can’t pick.

Shhhhhhh. In Canada they can revoke your citizenship for failing to adore summer.
