I grew up in a family of Christmas Eve celebrators. I married a Christmas Day guy. Despite this division in our marriage we make it work. Mostly I try to bribe him into doing it my way with holiday cookies. Our tree is decorated. The stockings have been hung by the fire with care. The packages under the tree have been shaken. Our dog Cairo has discovered via his keen sense of smell, that there is a package that may contain dog treat on top the bookcase in the dining room. He likes to sit in there and cry plaintively until one of us goes in there and tells him to shut up. (And yes, we do have a bookcase in our dining room. And in the living room. And in my office. And in our bedroom. One can’t have too many bookcases.)

We’ll do a nice dinner tonight. Christmas Day we join friends for a brunch/lunch at Hotel Vancouver. We feast and then come home and nap. The evening will be spent with a nice glass of port in front of the fire. A good time shall be had by all.
